Chapter 10 - A New DawnSix months later, the sun rose over the newly dedicated Parker Veterans Foundation facility in downtown Baltimore.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by local dignitaries, military officials, and dozens of veterans whose lives had been turned around by the foundation's housing and career placement programs.

I stood at the podium in my full dress uniform, looking out over the smiling crowd. General Vance sat in the front row, giving me a subtle, approving nod.

"My father built a life of integrity and hard work," I spoke into the microphone, my voice ringing clear across the courtyard. "He believed that resources should be used to lift others up, not to feed greed or intimidation. Today, through this foundation, his legacy lives on to protect and serve those who need it most."

Applause erupted around me, warm, genuine, and thunderous.

After the ceremony concluded, I walked alone through the quiet garden behind the center. A bronze plaque mounted on a granite stone bore my father’s name, alongside a quote he used to tell me when I was just a little girl staring up at the stars, wondering what my place in the world would be.

“Never let anyone convince you that you are smaller than your mission.”

I smiled, traced my fingers gently over the cold bronze letters, and looked up at the bright, unobstructed sky. They had called it a family meeting to break me. Instead, they had given me the strength to build an empire of justice.

And my mission was only just beginning.
