Chapter 6 - 9:00 PM – The Poison Cup

The clock inside the Huntsville Unit isolation block clicked monotonously. 8:58 PM.
Gavin Cole sat on the edge of his steel bunk, staring at the small metal table where a plastic tray rested. On it sat a tasteless institution dinner and a translucent plastic cup filled with water.
Heavy footsteps echoed down the concrete corridor.
Officer Dale Henderson appeared outside the cell bars, a cold, empty smile plastered across his face. He held a small paper packet in his right hand—his left hand conspicuously shoved deep inside his uniform pocket, concealing the missing index finger that Chloe had so vividly described.
"Time for your final meal, Cole," Henderson said, his voice dripping with false sympathy. "Doctor's orders to make sure you stay hydrated and calm before the transfer to the execution chamber at eleven."
Henderson unlocked the food slot, sliding the tray inside. He carefully placed the plastic cup right at the front.
Gavin looked down at the water. A faint, powdery residue swirled at the very bottom of the cup, dissolving slowly under the fluorescent light.
"Aren't you going to watch me drink it, Henderson?" Gavin asked, his voice deathly calm, masking the volcanic rage boiling beneath his skin.
Henderson’s smile tightened. "Just drink it, Cole. It makes things easier for everyone."
Gavin slowly reached out, picked up the cup, and raised it toward his lips. Henderson’s eyes locked onto the glass with predatory satisfaction, waiting for the convict to take the fatal sip.
Instead, Gavin smiled, tossed the cup backward, splashing the toxic water harmlessly across the concrete floor, and slammed the heavy plastic tray directly against the metal bars right into Henderson’s face.
"Agh!" Henderson stumbled backward, clutching his bloody nose, dropping his keys in panic. "You crazy bastard—!"
"I'm not drinking poison, Dale," Gavin said, stepping right up to the bars, his eyes burning with fury. "And you aren't going anywhere."
Before Henderson could draw his baton, heavy emergency sirens began wailing throughout the entire prison complex. Red emergency strobes flashed violently down every cell block, and the public address system crackled to life with an announcement that sent shockwaves through the entire guard staff:

Henderson froze, his face draining completely of color as heavy combat boots echoed down the corridor—not from prison guards, but from heavily armed Federal Marshals moving with terrifying speed.
