Chapter 6 - THE RAT IN THE BASEMENTBack in downtown Harrow Falls, the silence of Blackwoods restaurant had given way to pure, unadulterated chaos.

Dylan Burroughs slammed his fist into the mahogany bar, shattering a crystal decanter of scotch. Shards of glass sprayed across the floor, catching the dim emergency lights.
"He ruined us!" Dylan roared, his face purple with rage, spittle flying from his lips. "Everything my father built, everything I worked for—gone overnight! All because of a mangy mutt and some nobody waitress!"
Libby sat huddled in a booth in the corner, clutching a cocktail glass with fingers that wouldn't stop shaking. Her mascara was completely ruined, running in black tracks down her cheeks. The invincible queen of Harrow Falls had been dethroned, stripped of her status, her fiancé, and her social standing in less than an hour.
"We can't just let him win," Libby whispered fiercely, her eyes suddenly flashing with a dangerous, psychotic light. "Dante Vance thinks he's untouchable. He thinks he can crush us and walk away."
Dylan stopped pacing, narrowing his eyes at her. "What are you talking about, Libby? You saw his men. You saw what he did to the judge. We cross Dante Vance, we end up floating in the harbor with concrete shoes."
"Not if we don't do it ourselves," Libby hissed, leaning forward across the sticky table. She pulled out her phone—the one device Viktor’s men had missed in her designer clutch—and tapped rapidly on the screen. "There's someone who hates Dante even more than we do. Someone who’s been waiting years for a crack in his armor."

Dylan stared at her, a cold dread washing over him. "Who?"
"Salvatore Rossi," Libby whispered, a cruel, trembling smile twisting her lips. "The Chicago Syndicate."
