Chapter 9 - THE EXECUTION OF A MERGERThe golden chandelier light caught the polished surface of the marble floor, reflecting the dark silhouettes of the characters like figures in an oil painting of a Renaissance tragedy.

Alexander stepped closer to Marcus until they were separated by less than three feet. The height difference gave Alexander an overwhelming physical dominance, but it was the absolute stillness in his eyes that made Marcus look away.

"You wanted a hostile takeover, Marcus," Alexander said, his voice quiet, carrying an intimacy that made the words ten times more terrifying. "You wanted the assets, the power, the crown. You calculated every variable. You bribed the vault manager, you acquired the synthetic alkaloid, you timed the toast to the exact second of the gala's live broadcast."

Marcus didn't speak. His throat worked convulsively, his eyes darting frantically toward the doors, where Miller’s security operatives stood blocking every exit. There was no escape. Boston’s elite watched in stunned, paralyzed silence, recording history on hidden screens, too terrified to intervene and too fascinated to look away.

"You forgot one variable, however," Alexander continued, tilting his head slightly toward the massive black mastiff still standing guard beside Victoria.

Marcus swallowed hard, his voice a dry rasp. "The... the dog."

"Bruno doesn't care about balance sheets or stock options," Alexander said softly. "He smells corruption. He smells a predator trying to slip past the gates."

With a flick of Alexander’s wrist, Miller and two security operatives moved in with terrifying speed. There was no struggle, no dramatic brawl—just the cold, clinical efficiency of corporate enforcement. Marcus Thorne’s arms were seized, pulled behind his back with a sharp click of steel handcuffs.

Julian Vance stood frozen, his face carved from stone, knowing that his silence and complicity had sealed his fate just as surely as if he had held the vial himself. The board would be restructured by morning, but not the way Julian had planned.

Victoria stepped forward, her emerald-green gown catching the amber light, her hand resting gently on Bruno’s head. The massive dog let out one final, deep sigh of relief, his heavy body relaxing as the tension drained from the room.

"What about Julian and Richard?" Victoria asked quietly, her eyes fixed on Alexander.

Alexander didn't look back at the two remaining executives. He adjusted his white pocket square with absolute, meticulous precision.

"They will resign before midnight," Alexander said, his voice flat. "And by dawn, they will discover that their portfolios, their trusts, and their shares have been quietly absorbed by a newly formed holding company registered under Bruno’s name."

Marcus Thorne let out a choked, desperate sound as he was dragged backward toward the service exit, his designer shoes scraping uselessly against the polished white marble.
