Chapter 5 - The Trap Closes"Marco," I said quietly.

"Sir?"
"Did you record every word of that confession?"
Marco tapped the lapel pin on his suit jacket. "Crystal clear, Mr. Vance. Transmitted live to the encrypted server at federal headquarters, along with the biometric access logs and the digital copy of Sofia's phone records from the cloud."
Vivienne’s triumphant smile froze. Her face turned chalk white.
"What... what did you say?" she stammered, standing up abruptly.
"You think I didn't know about Aegis Bio?" I asked, my voice cutting through her panic like a razor. "You think I built a multi-billion-dollar empire without auditing my own skeletons? I spent the last five years quietly tracking down the truth about my father's past, Vivienne. I was the one who hired Sofia’s father back then. I was the one who brought Sofia into this house to protect her after I found out someone was hunting the surviving heirs of Aegis Bio."
Vivienne stumbled back against the mahogany table. "No... that’s impossible. You couldn't have known—"
"I didn't know you were the corporate assassin my father hired decades ago to clean up his loose ends," I said, stepping right up to her face. "Or rather... I didn't realize until tonight that the young, brilliant M&A lawyer who climbed into my life three years ago was the daughter of the fixer who helped bury the Aegis scandal."
She stared at me, her eyes wide with absolute terror. The predator had become the prey.
"Marco," I commanded. "Call the state police detail waiting at the outer gates. Tell them the confession is secured and the suspect is contained."
Before Marco could lift his comm-link, Vivienne’s hand flashed toward her thigh-high slit in her sapphire gown.

With blinding speed, she pulled out a micro-ceramic Glock 42—a weapon completely undetectable by standard metal detectors.
She jammed the barrel directly under little Rosie's chin.
