Chapter 7 - The DownfallWith a motion too fast to follow, Marco drew his sidearm, leveled it, and fired a non-lethal pneumatic projectile straight into Vivienne's shoulder.

Thwack.

The high-velocity impact slammed Vivienne backward against the mahogany dining table. The ceramic Glock flew from her hand, skidding across the polished floorboards and crashing into the base of the crystal fireplace.

Marco closed the distance in two strides, kicking her legs out from under her and slamming her face-down onto the wood, pinning her wrists behind her back with industrial-grade zip-ties.

"Suspect secured," Marco barked into his comms. "All teams move in. Clear the house."

Vivienne screamed, thrashing against the floor, her sapphire gown tearing down the seam, her perfect hair unravelling into a wild mess.

"Damian! You bastard! You can't do this to me! I know everything! I'll ruin you! I'll take down the whole damn company with me!"

I walked over, picked up the platinum ring that had fallen from her fingers during the scuffle, and slipped it into my pocket. Then I looked down at the woman who had shared my bed, my home, and my future.

"The company survived my father," I said softly. "It will survive you."

Two state troopers in tactical gear burst through the dining hall doors, accompanied by local detectives. They hauled Vivienne to her feet, reading her rights as they dragged her toward the freezing rain outside.

She didn't look back.
