Chapter 15 - The Ashes of New York

Dawn broke over Westchester, painting the horizon in streaks of pale amber and bruised gray. The estate was surrounded by federal transport vans, state police cruisers, and Dominic’s private cleanup crews. The siege was over. The rogue federal faction and the remnants of the Corsican-Silverio alliance had been systematically dismantled in a coordinated sweep across three states before the sun had even fully risen.
In the grand study, Dominic sat behind his massive mahogany desk, sliding the recovered microchip into a secure reader connected to an offline terminal. A green light flashed, confirming the data was intact—and ready to be handed over to an uncorrupted federal prosecutor whom Dominic had quietly cultivated over the past decade.
I stood by the window, holding a sleeping Lily in my arms. Her breathing was deep and even, completely exhausted by the night's horrors.
Dominic stood up, walking over to join me. He looked tired, the lines around his eyes deeper than I had ever seen them, but his posture was upright, unbreakable.
“The federal officials involved have been detained,” Dominic said quietly. “Your father’s name is officially cleared across every government database in Washington. His pension, his honor, his legacy—restored.”
I looked down at Lily, then up at Dominic. The heavy burden I had carried for six years—the anger, the grief, the desperate need for validation—suddenly felt weightless, as if it had simply blown away in the morning wind.
“Thank you, Dominic,” I whispered.
He reached out, his large, scarred hand gently resting on my shoulder. “You didn't need my help to survive, Clara. You just needed the right room to fight in.”
He looked toward the doorway, where Ethan was walking in, holding two fresh paintbrushes and a wooden duck, looking completely unharmed.
“Are you staying?” Dominic asked, his gray eyes searching mine, stripped of all authority, leaving only a man asking a woman a very simple question.
I looked out at the sprawling, secure estate, then down at the little girl who had changed the course of New York’s underworld with a single swing of her white sneaker.

“Where else would I go?” I smiled softly. “Someone still has to manage your house.”
Dominic smiled back, the cold mafia boss completely gone, replaced by a partner ready to face whatever came next.
