Chapter 7 - RECKONING OF THE FALLENThree months later.

The high-profile trial of Julian Vance, Victoria Vance, and the estate's corrupt legal team had captivated the entire nation. It was dubbed by news outlets as "The Billion-Dollar Bloodbath."

Inside the federal courtroom, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense. Hundreds of reporters packed the gallery, their cameras flashing endlessly through the reinforced glass partition.

Julian Vance sat at the defense table, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit instead of his usual three-piece Italian suits. His hair was disheveled, his face hollow and sunken. Beside him, Victoria sat completely motionless, her eyes staring blankly at the table, broken by months of psychological evaluation in a state facility.

The prosecution had laid out an airtight case: the poisoned tea, the bribed death certificate, the tampered hospital power grid, and the damning video confession left behind by Arthur Vance himself.

The jury took less than two hours to reach a verdict.

"On the count of attempted murder in the first degree," the jury foreman announced, his voice booming through the silent courtroom, "we find the defendant, Julian Vance... GUILTY."

Julian closed his eyes, a tremor running through his shoulders.

"On the count of conspiracy to commit murder, fraud, and high-level corporate embezzlement... GUILTY."

The judge looked down at Julian over his reading glasses, his expression carved from stone. "Julian Vance, for your cold, calculated, and unspeakable actions against the man who raised you, this court sentences you to life in prison without the possibility of parole."

Julian was handcuffed and led away by federal marshals. As he walked past the prosecution table, he turned his head to look at Emily, who sat in the front row of the gallery.

"You stole my life," Julian hissed under his breath, his eyes filled with pure hatred.

Emily looked back at him, her expression calm, untroubled, and completely free of fear. "You ruined your own life the day you decided money was worth more than human life."

Victoria was sentenced to twenty-five years in a psychiatric security facility for her role in the conspiracy and the manslaughter of Dr. Sterling.

As the court adjourned, reporters swarmed the exit, thrusting microphones toward Emily.

"Miss Vance! Miss Vance!" a journalist shouted over the clamor. "Now that you are the sole controller of the sixty-billion-dollar Vance Estate, what are your plans for the company?"

Emily stopped on the courthouse steps, looking out over the crowd of cameras.

"My father built his wealth on technology and innovation," Emily said clearly, her voice broadcast to millions of viewers worldwide. "But from this day forward, fifty percent of the Vance Global dividend will be permanently redirected to establish the Arthur & Emily Foundation—a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing abused children from orphanages, funding medical research against rare neurotoxins, and ensuring no vulnerable person is ever left helpless in the dark."
