Chapter 7 - THE FINAL RECKONINGThe iron fire poker whistled through the air, missing Julian’s skull by mere inches as he ducked with practiced reflex. The heavy metal crashed into the mahogany bookshelf, sending a cascade of leather-bound first-edition classics tumbling to the floor.

Evelyn didn't hesitate. She drew back the poker for a second, lethal strike, her face twisted into a mask of pure demonic rage. "If I can't have the empire, nobody will!"
Before she could swing, a sharp crack echoed through the study.
It wasn't a gunshot. It was Marcus Vance executing a flawless combat sweep, his foot lashing out in a blistering roundhouse kick that caught Evelyn squarely in the wrist. The heavy iron fire poker flew from her grip, clattering loudly against the stone hearth.
Before she could scream, Marcus grabbed her arm, twisted it behind her back with brutal efficiency, and slammed her face-first against the edge of the walnut desk—right beside her paralyzed, staring uncle, Harrison Kincaid.
Evelyn gasped, her eyes locking onto Kincaid’s terrified, immobile face frozen in a mask of helpless fury on the floor below her.
"Uncle Harrison?!" Evelyn shrieked, her voice cracking in utter disbelief. "What did you—why didn't you—"
"He can't answer you, Evelyn," Julian said, stepping forward, his shadow falling over her like a shroud. He picked up the jagged pieces of the crystal fountain pen he had broken moments earlier. "He’s currently experiencing the profound realization that backing a psychopath is a terrible long-term investment."
Evelyn thrashed wildly, her bridal veil ripping away and floating down like a fallen angel's wing. "You can't do this to me! I'm Mrs. Sterling! We signed the papers! Even if the prenup holds, the common-law marriage clause gives me—"
"We never signed the marriage license, Evelyn," Julian interrupted, pulling a pristine, unblemished white document from his breast pocket and waving it slowly in front of her face. "The document you and the corrupt pastor signed in the antechamber before the ceremony was a standard non-disclosure agreement for the catering staff. The actual marriage license is still sitting blank in my safe, waiting for someone with actual loyalty and a soul."
Evelyn stopped struggling. The air left her lungs in a long, hollow wheeze. The immense, crushing weight of her total, absolute defeat finally settled over her shoulders. Every lie, every murder, every manipulated heartbeat had all led to this exact moment—kneeling in the dirt, trapped by the man she thought she had outsmarted.
Heavy boots thundered down the hallway. A dozen federal marshals and state troopers flooded the study, their weapons drawn, led by the Chief of Police himself.
"Mr. Sterling," the Chief said, saluting sharply as he took in the surreal scene of a paralyzed corporate mogul on the floor and a sobbing, ruined bride pinned to the desk. "We've secured the perimeter. All co-conspirators have been rounded up. The estate is safe."

Julian nodded slowly. He walked over to where Chloe was calmly coloring a picture of a golden retriever in her sketchbook, completely unbothered by the chaos around her. He gently patted her head, then turned back to the assembled officers.
"Take them away," Julian commanded, his voice echoing with absolute finality. "And make sure they never see the sun rise outside of a federal penitentiary again."
