Chapter 8 - THE DIGITAL EXECUTIONThe morning sun broke over the snowy peaks of the northern mountains, casting blinding shards of white light through the frosted windows of the cabin.

I sat at an old wooden dining table, the laptop open, connected via a satellite hotspot I had scavenged from my SUV. The encrypted drive Uncle Arthur had left behind was plugged directly into the machine.

Mara stood behind me, her hands resting lightly on my shoulders as lines of decrypted data scrolled down the screen.

"There it is," I breathed, clicking open a master folder labeled 'Whitaker-Vance Consolidated Holdings.'

It was a digital pandora's box.

Financial ledgers detailing decades of embezzlement, shell companies used to siphon funds from Whitaker Enterprises, illegal offshore accounts, and—most damning of all—recorded phone transcripts between my mother, Eleanor, and Jonathan Vance discussing the systematic removal of anyone who threatened the corporate succession line.

Including Uncle Arthur.

"Look at this file," Mara whispered, pointing to a document dated six years ago, titled 'Operation Ghost-Child.'

I clicked it open. My breath caught in my throat.

It was a full medical and legal dossier on Mara, detailing my mother’s orders to intercept her, fake her disappearance, forge adoption waivers, and threaten her brother’s life.

"They planned the whole thing down to the minute," I said, my voice shaking with cold fury. "They didn't just exile you, Mara. They treated you like a corporate liability to be eliminated."

"And now we have the smoking gun," Mara said, her voice steady and resolute.

"Not just the gun," I said, a grim smile forming on my lips as I pulled up the direct contact list for the Chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's White-Collar Crime Division—a man of uncompromised integrity whom my father had trusted decades ago. "We have the entire arsenal."

I hit send, transmitting the entire master drive directly to the federal server, complete with a verified digital signature and my executive authorization code as the primary heir to Whitaker Enterprises.

"It's sent," I said, leaning back in my chair. "In two hours, federal agents will raid the Manhattan headquarters. Vance and my mother won't know what hit them."

Suddenly, the satellite hotspot on the table beeped sharply.

An incoming video call popped up on the screen.

It wasn't the FBI.

It was Jonathan Vance.

I clicked accept. Vance’s cold, calculating face appeared on the monitor, sitting behind the massive mahogany desk in my mother's corporate office. Behind him, armed federal agents in tactical gear were already cuffing my mother, forcing her hands behind her back.

“Well, well, Julian,” Vance said, his voice dripping with venom, though a bead of sweat rolled down his temple. “You managed to dig up some old trash. But you're too late to save the empire.”

"It's over, Vance," I said, leaning toward the camera, my voice ringing with absolute authority. "The federal marshals are raiding the building right now. Your accounts are frozen, your shell companies are exposed, and your warrants are already signed."

Vance smiled—a chilling, desperate grin. “My warrants? Julian, look out the window of your little cabin.”

My blood ran cold.

I whipped my head around toward the front window of the cabin.

Out in the snowy clearing, three black SUVs had just pulled up, their engines rumbling in the freezing air. Heavy armored doors swung open, and armed men poured out, surrounding the perimeter.
