Chapter 6 - THE TRAP CLOSESThe heavy oak door burst open. Four armed security operatives in tactical gear flooded the suite, weapons raised, instantly surrounding Julian Vance and cutting off any exit route.

Julian’s face drained of color. He looked toward the door, then back at Asher, whose expression remained carved from granite.
"You calculated your moves well, Julian," Asher said, slowly walking toward him, buttoning his suit jacket with deliberate precision. "You tracked Laney, you monitored the hospital, and you assumed I would be too distracted by my injured son and my recovering wife to notice a breach in security."
"You can't touch me, Asher!" Julian snapped, his voice rising in panic as a tactical officer forced him to his knees, pressing a heavy hand against his shoulder. "I am a registered partner at Vance Capital! This is a kidnapping! This is corporate warfare!"
"This isn't corporate warfare," Asher replied coldly, stopping inches away from Julian and looking down at him as if he were an insect. "This is a family matter. And you just threatened my children."
Asher turned to the head of his security detail. "Take him to the underground holding facility at the Lexington estate. No lawyers, no calls, no outside contact. Lock him in Level Three until he gives me the names of every single person involved in that threat against Malik."
"Understood, Mr. Lennox," the commander barked, hauling Julian up by his arms as the corporate rival thrashed and shouted curses that were abruptly cut off as a thick hood was slipped over his head.
As the guards dragged Julian out of the suite, the heavy oak door clicked shut, plunging the room back into a heavy, suffocating silence.
Laney pulled herself up against the pillows, her hands trembling as she looked at Asher. The raw, terrifying efficiency with which he had neutralized the threat left her breathless.
"Asher..." she whispered, her voice shaking. "He knows about the twins. Even if you lock him away, his associates... they'll find us. They'll use the children to destroy you."
Asher turned around, walking slowly back to the side of the bed. The terrifying predator of a minute ago vanished, replaced by a man carrying the crushing weight of a devastating realization. He sat down on the edge of the mattress, the springs creaking softly under his weight.
He reached out, his large, warm hand gently covering her trembling fingers.
"They won't get within a mile of our children," Asher said, his voice fierce, steady, and laced with absolute conviction. "Because starting today, the world is going to learn a very hard lesson about what happens when someone touches the Lennox family."
Laney looked into his eyes, searching for the cold, distant corporate titan she had fled from seven months ago. Instead, she found something else—a profound, aching vulnerability, and a love so fierce it terrified her.
"Why didn't you let me go, Asher?" she asked softly. "After everything I did... after running away, hiding my pregnancy, keeping our children from you... why are you still protecting me?"
Asher looked down at the bassinet where the twins were sleeping peacefully, then back at her.
"Because," he whispered, pressing his forehead gently against hers, "you didn't run away because you stopped loving me, Laney. You ran away because you thought I couldn't protect you from the monsters I created."

He pulled back slightly, his thumb brushing away a stray tear from her cheek.
"Well, you were right," Asher admitted, the confession costing him more than any billion-dollar deal ever had. "My ambition opened the door for them. But I’m going to close it. Permanently."
