Chapter 7 - THE PRESS CONFERENCE OF THE CENTURYThree days later, the grand ballroom of the Lennox Global headquarters in Manhattan was packed to the absolute bursting point. Hundreds of reporters, camera operators, and financial journalists pushed against the heavy brass barricades, shouting questions simultaneously. The digital screens lining Times Square and financial networks across the globe flashed with a single, breaking headline:

“THE LENNOX RECKONING: PRESS CONFERENCE CALLED BY BILLIONAIRE CEO.”
Rumors had run wild for weeks. Some said Asher Lennox was stepping down. Others whispered about a hostile takeover of Vance Capital, whose CEO, Julian Vance, had mysteriously vanished from public life forty-eight hours prior.
At precisely 10:00 AM, the side doors opened.
Asher Lennox walked onto the stage. He wasn't wearing his usual expression of cold corporate indifference. He wore a sharp black suit, his posture rigid, his face carved from stone. But what shocked the press corps into stunned, pin-drop silence was not Asher—it was the woman walking beside him.
Laney Lennox, wearing an elegant ivory dress that masked the lingering fatigue of childbirth, walked hand-in-hand with her husband. And trailing behind them, flanked by private security, was their six-year-old son Malik, walking with a slight limp, holding a small stroller containing two sleeping newborns.
The flashbulbs erupted like a localized lightning storm.
Asher stepped up to the central mahogany podium, his broad shoulders filling the space. He adjusted the microphone, his deep, resonant voice echoing through the massive hall and broadcasting live to millions of homes worldwide.
"Thank you for coming on such short notice," Asher began, his voice completely level, devoid of any warmth. "I am aware that rumors regarding my private life, my marriage, and my company have dominated the news cycle over the past week."
A hundred reporters leaned forward, recording devices thrust into the air.
"Seven months ago, my wife, Laney Lennox, left our home," Asher continued, his eyes scanning the blinding sea of cameras without flinching. "The tabloids speculated that our marriage had collapsed under the weight of my career. They were wrong. She left because our family was targeted by cowards who believed they could use my wife and my unborn children as leverage against my business interests."
A collective gasp rippled through the press corps. Flashbulbs intensified tenfold.
"Today, those individuals have been dealt with permanently," Asher stated, his tone dropping into a freezing, razor-sharp register that sent a chill through the room. "Vance Capital is currently undergoing a complete federal and internal restructuring under the direct management of Lennox Global. Anyone who believes they can threaten my family and walk away will find out very quickly that my empire was built on something far more powerful than money."

He paused, turning his head slightly to look at Laney, who stood beside him, her head held high, the quiet strength in her eyes matching his own.
"Furthermore," Asher said, his voice softening just a fraction, echoing with absolute finality, "to the media, the public, and my corporate rivals: Laney never left me. She was protecting our family while I was blind to the threats surrounding us. Today, we stand here not as a broken family, but as an unbreakable one. And let it be known to the entire world—anyone who comes for a Lennox comes for all of us."
