Chapter 5 - The In-Laws Try to Storm the House — "Her Mother Showed Up With a Crowbar, But My Security Team Was Waiting!"

At 2:00 PM on Thursday, with three hours left on the clock, a loud, aggressive honking echoed from my driveway. I looked through the kitchen window and saw a large silver pickup truck park directly across my lawn, crushing George's favorite hydrangea bushes.
Out stepped Brenda, Jessica’s mother—a loud, abrasive woman who wore entirely too much turquoise jewelry and had spent her life enabling her daughter's worst behaviors. Behind her were two burly men, Jessica's brothers, carrying empty cardboard boxes and, shockingly, a yellow metal crowbar.
They marched up to my porch and began slamming their fists against the wood.
"Eleanor! Open this door right now!" Brenda screamed, her face pressed against the glass pane. "You senile old bat! You are not treating my daughter like this! We are coming in to get their things, and if you've damaged any of her designer clothes, I’m suing you for every dime you have!"
I didn't open the door. I didn't even flinch.
Instead, I unlocked the side gate where two large, uniformed men from Vanguard Elite Security were waiting. I had hired them through Victoria's legal network that morning for a cool $500 for the afternoon. They were retired police officers, built like brick walls, wearing tactical vests and body cameras.
They stepped onto the porch from the side, instantly flanking Brenda and her sons.
"Ma'am, step away from the door," the lead guard, a man named Marcus, said in a voice that rumbled like thunder. "You are currently trespassing on private property. The homeowner has explicitly stated you are not welcome."
Brenda turned around, her jaw dropping as she looked at the two massive guards. "What?! I am family! My daughter lives here!"
"Your daughter is currently being evicted for unlawful occupation," Marcus replied, pointing directly to the body camera on his chest. "This interaction is being recorded for the state prosecutor's office. If you use that crowbar on this door, you will be arrested for felony breaking and entering, criminal property damage, and armed trespass. Drop the tool."
Jessica’s brothers, who looked tough but had no desire to go to jail for their sister's greed, immediately dropped their boxes. The one holding the crowbar slid it into his back pocket and stepped away.
"Brenda!" Jessica shrieked, opening the second-story window and looking down. "They're filing criminal charges against Matt! The bank froze his accounts! Help us!"

"Get in the truck, Jessica!" Brenda yelled back, her arrogance completely evaporating as Marcus took a pair of heavy zip-ties from his belt. "We’re leaving! Eleanor, you are a monster! You will burn in hell for this!"
"If protecting my husband's memory and my own home makes me a monster, Brenda," I shouted through the open kitchen window, "then I will gladly wear the horns. Tell your daughter she has exactly two hours left."
