Chapter 1: The Bread That Changed Everything

It was one of the coldest mornings the city had seen all year.
Rain dripped endlessly from the gray sky, turning the sidewalks into mirrors of broken dreams. Commuters rushed past with umbrellas, expensive coffee cups, and eyes fixed on their phones.
No one noticed the man sitting against the brick wall.
Or perhaps...
They simply chose not to.
His name had once been Daniel Carter.
Years ago, he had owned a successful construction company, a beautiful house, and a family that laughed around the dinner table every Sunday.
Now...
His coat was torn.
His shoes had holes.
His stomach hadn't felt full in three days.
People walked by as if he were invisible.
Some avoided looking at him.
Others wrinkled their noses in disgust.
Daniel lowered his head.
He had stopped asking for help a long time ago.
Because rejection hurt less when you expected it.
Then...
A small shadow stopped in front of him.
Daniel slowly looked up.
Standing there was a boy no older than nine.
Neatly dressed in a school uniform.
Polished black shoes.
A backpack almost bigger than his body.
In his tiny hands...
He held the last bread roll from his lunch.
The boy looked directly into Daniel's tired eyes.
"Sir..."
"You look hungry."
Without hesitation, he held out the bread.
Daniel stared silently.
Nobody...
Absolutely nobody...
Had offered him food in months.
His hands trembled as he reached toward it.
But just before touching the bread...
He stopped.
His eyes filled with tears.
"No."
The little boy blinked.
"But... I brought it for you."
Daniel slowly pushed the bread back into the child's hands.
"If I eat this..."
"You'll be hungry."
The boy smiled softly.
"My mom says people should never let someone suffer when they can help."
Daniel felt something inside him crack.
He hadn't heard words like that since his own son was still alive.
For a moment...
He almost accepted.
But before either of them could speak again...
A black luxury SUV screeched to a stop beside the sidewalk.
Its doors flew open.
Three men in expensive suits rushed toward the homeless man.
One of them shouted loudly enough for everyone on the street to hear.
"Mr. Carter!"
"We've been searching for you everywhere!"
Every pedestrian froze.
The little boy looked from Daniel to the strangers, completely confused.
Daniel's face turned pale.
Because he recognized the men immediately.
They weren't here to save him.
They were the executives who had stolen everything from him five years ago...
And the leather folder in the tallest man's hand contained a document Daniel never expected to see again.
His name.
His signature.
May you like
And a secret worth fifty million dollars.
To be continued...
