Chapter 7 - The Downfall of an EmpireWithin forty-eight hours, the full weight of the federal government collapsed upon the Ferguson family empire like a tidal wave.

News outlets across the nation plastered the story across every screen and front page: “CORRUPTION EXPOSED: Corporate Dynasty and Superior Court Judge Arrested in Massive Federal Sweep Led by U.S. Army Colonel.”

The headlines went viral within minutes, skyrocketing to the top of trending topics across Facebook, X, and global news networks. The public outcry was overwhelming. Thousands of citizens who had been wronged by the Ferguson real estate monopoly and Judge Sterling’s rigged court rulings came forward with testimonies, flooding the federal prosecutor's office with supporting evidence.

Patricia Ferguson, stripped of her corporate authority and facing thirty years in federal prison without the possibility of parole, attempted to cut a plea deal by implicating her own son Gregory as the mastermind behind the family's illegal operations. Gregory, in turn, wept openly in a holding cell, blaming his mother for grooming him into a life of unchecked arrogance and criminal extortion.

Nicholas Ferguson, still reeling from the sudden destruction of his family's wealth and prestige, was served divorce papers by Abigail’s military-appointed legal team while sitting in a county holding cell—complete with a demand for total forfeiture of all joint assets, full custody waivers, and a permanent, unbreakable restraining order.

I sat in the quiet living room of our home at Fort Liberty, watching the morning news broadcast replay footage of the federal agents hauling the handcuffed Ferguson executives out of their downtown Charlotte mansion.

Abigail walked into the room, wearing a soft gray sweater, her bruises slowly fading into pale yellow shadows under expert medical care. She held a steaming mug of hot tea in her hands, a small, genuine smile gracing her lips—the first real smile I had seen in over a year.

She walked over, set the mug down on the coffee table, and leaned her head against my shoulder.

"Thank you, Mom," she whispered softly.

I wrapped my arm around her, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head.

"You never have to ask anyone to come get you again, sweetheart," I replied, my voice thick with emotion. "As long as I draw breath, no one will ever lay a hand on you again."
