Chapter 1 - THE VANISHING EVIDENCEThe hospital database was a ghost town. I sat in my home office, my hands shaking as I typed in the patient ID for Eli Mercer. Access Denied.

I tried the surgical logs for Thursday. The record of the vascular repair was gone, replaced by a routine appendectomy report for a different patient. My heart hammered against my ribs. I had taken photos. I reached for my phone, but the screen was black—the device had been remotely wiped.

Someone hadn't just deleted the files; they had erased my clinical existence.
