Chapter 10 - THE FINAL SURPRISEWe won, but the cost was absolute. My career was gone, and I could never go back to the life I knew.

A month later, I stood on a beach in a different country, watching Eli play in the sand. He was healthy, free, and completely unaware of the monsters that had almost turned him into a machine.

A woman approached me. It was Brooke. She looked different—harder, her eyes focused.

"I left them," she said. "I took every file, every name, and every account number. We have everything we need to burn them to the ground."

"Why?" I asked.

"Because," she smiled, a sad, knowing look, "you were right. Some things are worth losing everything for."

I looked at the horizon. I had lost a wedding, but I had gained a mission. We were the ghosts now, and we were coming for the architects.
