Chapter 3 - THE TURKEY AND THE TRUTHDinner was a feast of flavors Sarah hadn't tasted in years. Roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes so creamy they melted on the tongue. But the real meal was the conversation. For the first time in years, Sarah didn't have to be the sole guardian of her daughter’s happiness; Ethan was there, answering questions, laughing at Emily’s stories about her kindergarten teacher, and treating them like equals.

"What do you do for work, Ethan?" Sarah asked, sipping a glass of water, feeling the warmth of the room finally thawing her bones.

Ethan paused. "I move money around. I buy things that are broken and try to fix them. But tonight, I’m just a guy who wanted a dinner companion."
