Chapter 4 - THE FRAGILE HEARTAs Emily grew tired, she climbed onto the couch, eventually falling asleep with the paper airplane Ethan had made her earlier in the night. The room grew quiet, leaving Sarah and Ethan by the fireplace.

"You didn't have to do this," Sarah said, her voice barely a whisper. "You could have just given us twenty dollars at the door and gone back to your quiet house."
Ethan leaned forward, his face illuminated by the flickering embers. "I saw your daughter look at that turkey, Sarah. And I saw you kneeling on the floor, promising her that love was enough. I haven't heard a promise like that in twenty years. People usually promise me profit, or equity, or leverage. You promised her dignity."
