Chapter 6 - THE PUBLIC EXPOSUREThree days after the airport confrontation, the financial news columns and local tech blogs broke the story with a headline that sent shockwaves through Denver's elite circles:

TECH STARTUP FOUNDER ADRIAN COLE ARRESTED IN MASSIVE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR FRAUD SCHEME; SPOUSAL ASSET-THEFT PLOT FOILED BY WIFE.
The article featured detailed court documents, leaked corporate audio transcripts of Adrian and Julian plotting my ruin at Gate 42, and a full disclosure of the fraudulent shell companies they used to siphon funds. Social media went into a complete frenzy. Comments poured in by the thousands, with former colleagues, acquaintances, and clients expressing absolute shock at Adrian's double life.
I sat in my sunlit living room—the very room my father and I had restored together wood-by-wood—sipping coffee while scrolling through the digital commentary.
My phone rang. It was an unknown, restricted number. I swiped to answer.
"Elena?" a voice rasped. It sounded hollow, cracked, and utterly broken. It was Adrian, calling from the county jail's automated inmate communication system.
"Adrian," I answered neutrally.
"Please... you have to drop the charges," he begged, a pathetic tremor shaking his voice. "They're talking about a ten-year sentence for wire fraud and identity falsification. I'll lose everything, Elena. My life is over!"
"Your life isn't over, Adrian," I replied quietly. "It's just finally being lived with honesty. You tried to erase me, to strip away my history, my home, and my safety for your own greed. You made your bed in secret, and now you get to lie in it in a jumpsuit."
"Elena, wait! Don't hang up—!"

I tapped the screen, blocking the jail's number permanently. I set the phone down on the antique oak coffee table, walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and looked out at the vibrant green garden stretching across my property. The sun was shining brightly, casting a warm, golden glow over everything I had built, protected, and reclaimed.
