Chapter 4 - THE POLICE ARRIVESirens wailed in the distance, rapidly growing louder. When the officers burst into the room, Daniel didn't fight. He stood there, arms outstretched as if expecting a reward.

"She’s in Trauma Room 2," I told the lead detective, pointing to Emily. "She needs an amputation and emergency surgery. And him? Take him as far away from her as possible."

As they cuffed him, Daniel looked at Emily—who was finally stirring, her eyes fluttering open to see the chaos—and whispered, "They'll be back for us, Emily. The foundation never lets an investment go to waste."
