Chapter 8 - The Empire ReclaimedThe supply room erupted into a whirlwind of violence.

Vincent slammed his forearm directly into the throat of the nearest mercenary, the crunch of cartilage echoing off the tiled walls before the man even had time to raise his weapon. He ripped the assault rifle from the collapsing guard’s hands and swung the butt into the face of the second operative, dropping him instantly to the floor.

Marcus scrambled backward through the wreckage of medical supplies, his face pale with mortal terror. He reached frantically for his dropped Sig Sauer, his fingers brushing the grip—

A heavy, leather-clad boot slammed down directly onto his hand, crushing his knuckles against the concrete floor.

Marcus shrieked in agony, looking up to see Vincent standing over him like an executioner, his gray eyes devoid of any human mercy. Blood was soaking through his makeshift bandages again, dripping onto the floor, but he didn't even flinch.

“Please,” Marcus sobbed, clutching his broken hand. “Vincent, please! We’ve been partners for ten years! Don't—!”

“Partners share profits, Marcus,” Vincent whispered, his voice dangerously low. “Traitors share a shallow grave.”

A muffled gunshot echoed from the hallway, followed by the heavy thud of footsteps.

Vincent didn't blink. He raised the rifle barrel, but before he could pull the trigger, the doorway cleared.

Caleb Rourke stepped into the room, his suit shredded, a nasty gash bleeding freely down his left temple, holding an empty smoking submachine gun. Behind him, two bruised syndicate guards dragged the last surviving assassin by his collar.

Caleb took in the scene: Marcus pinned beneath Vincent’s boot, the unconscious mercenaries, and Nora standing unharmed beside the supply shelves.

Caleb let out a heavy breath, wiping sweat and gunpowder from his forehead.

“Looks like we missed the fun, Boss,” Caleb muttered, eyeing Marcus with deep disgust. “What do we do with the rat?”

“Take him down to the docks,” Vincent ordered coldly, removing his boot from Marcus’s hand as the accountant whimpered in pain. “Feed him to the concrete mixer in sector four. I want his accounts liquidated, his assets seized, and his name erased from every record in the city by sunrise.”

“Done,” Caleb said, signaling his guards to drag the sobbing accountant away.

Vincent turned slowly around. The adrenaline was beginning to fade, leaving behind a massive wave of physical exhaustion. His knees buckled slightly, the sheer blood loss finally catching up to him.

Nora moved instantly, catching his elbow before he hit the floor.

“I told you,” she scolded softly, her voice filled with fierce professional authority. “Your stitches are torn. If you pass out from internal bleeding now, I’m not saving you a second time.”

Vincent looked down at her. The harsh fluorescent lights of the corridor flickered back on as the main grid finally rebooted. The smoke was clearing. The threat was neutralized.

Yet, his hand didn't pull away. Instead, his fingers gently wrapped around Nora’s wrist, holding her close not out of fear or desperation, but with the quiet, permanent certainty of a man who had finally found an anchor in the storm.
