The dark shadows of the past had been scrubbed away, replaced by fresh paint, sunlight streaming through the windows, and the quiet, healing rhythm of normal life.

The trial had been swift and devastating. Sloane, Marcus, and Elena were all facing lengthy prison sentences for fraud, conspiracy, and child endangerment. The corporate empire I built was intact, secured by the forensic evidence I handed over to the federal investigators.

Right now, none of that mattered.

I stood in the kitchen, flipping pancakes on the skillet, while the radio played softly in the background.

Maisie skipped into the kitchen, wearing her favorite yellow dress, holding her patched-up stuffed rabbit in one hand and the framed photo of her mother—the real one, the memories we chose to keep—in the other.

"Daddy, is breakfast ready?" she asked, pulling out a chair at the wooden island.

"Almost, bug," I smiled, sliding a stack of pancakes onto her plate and pouring a glass of orange juice. "Pancakes coming right up."

I looked out the kitchen window at the bright autumn morning. The gate was closed. The road ahead was clear. For the first time in two years, the ghosts were finally gone, and the future belonged entirely to us.
