Chapter 10 - A New DawnSix months later, the city looked different.

The old rumors of Julian’s syndicate faded into urban legends. The police department underwent a massive, sweeping federal investigation that cleaned out the corrupt officials who had once sold the city to the highest bidder. The rival cartels, leaderless and starved of leverage after the digital purge, fractured and dissolved into infighting.
Julian didn't rebuild the syndicate.
Instead, he liquidated his remaining legitimate assets, established a massive charitable foundation for street youth and orphaned children, and stepped down from the shadows entirely.
His estate, once a forbidding fortress of iron and terror, was now filled with the sound of laughter.
On a warm Saturday afternoon, sunlight flooded the back patio where Eva sat at a wooden table, sketching a detailed drawing of a bird in flight.
Marcus stood nearby, tossing a baseball back and forth with a group of younger kids who now lived in the newly opened rehabilitation center funded by Julian’s foundation.
Julian walked out onto the patio, carrying a tray with two glasses of lemonade. He set them down on the table and sat across from his daughter.
Eva looked up, a bright, genuine smile spreading across her face.
“Are you coming to my art show on Tuesday, Papa?” she asked clearly, her voice confident and sweet.
Julian smiled, reaching across the table to squeeze her small hand.
"Every single word you speak is my favorite art show, sweetheart," Julian said softly. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."

Eva laughed, a light, musical sound that chased away every lingering ghost of their dark past.
Julian leaned back in his chair, looking out across the open gates of the estate—gates that no longer needed armed guards or steel locks to keep the world out, because for the first time in his life, he had nothing left to fear.
