CHAPTER 5 — The Notebook Everyone Was Willing to Kill For

The mysterious notebook became the biggest question in the investigation.
Harold had numbered every journal.
Volumes 1 through 47 were recovered.
But Volume 48...
Had vanished.
According to Harold's lawyer, it had been completed only three days before his death.
No one knew what was inside.
Except one person.
Ethan.
He suddenly remembered something Harold had whispered in the hospital.
"If they never find the clock..."
"...they'll never find the truth."
The clock.
Not the safe.
Not the workshop.
The clock.
Ethan raced back to Harold's house with FBI agents.
An old grandfather clock still stood quietly in the living room.
It hadn't worked for years.
Or so everyone believed.
One agent noticed tiny scratches near the pendulum.
He pressed gently.
Click.
A hidden compartment opened.
Inside rested Journal 48.
Along with a single flash drive.
The investigators stared in disbelief.
The notebook contained daily entries describing every threat Harold had received for decades.
But the flash drive...
Changed everything.
It contained a secretly recorded meeting from twenty-seven years earlier.
Victor Langford wasn't acting alone.
Several powerful executives...
Politicians...
And corporate lawyers had helped steal Harold's invention.
The conspiracy stretched far beyond one billionaire.
One FBI agent quietly muttered,
"This is going to destroy half the boardrooms in America."
That evening, before the evidence could be transported...
A convoy carrying the flash drive was ambushed.
Masked men forced the vehicle off the road.
Gunfire echoed across the empty highway.
May you like
The flash drive disappeared.
And so did one FBI agent.
