CHAPTER 2 – THE SECRET THE BILLIONAIRE BURIED

The old billionaire, Richard Hawthorne, could not move.

For seven years, he had trained himself not to react whenever someone mentioned his dead daughter.

He had buried his grief under marble mansions, private jets, and charity galas.

But now...

A little girl stood in front of him holding the bracelet he had given his daughter on her eighteenth birthday.

The same bracelet that had disappeared the night she died.

Security rushed forward.

"Sir, should we remove the child?"

Richard lifted one shaking hand.

"No."

The ballroom went silent again.

Slowly, he walked toward the girl.

His knees almost failed him when he saw her eyes.

They were the exact same eyes as his daughter, Eleanor.

"What's your name?" he whispered.

The child swallowed hard.

"Lily."

Richard's face collapsed.

That was the name Eleanor had once said she wanted for her future daughter.

Behind him, his wife, Margaret, stepped forward with a cold smile.

"Richard, this is ridiculous. Anyone can steal jewelry. She's probably part of a scam."

But Lily pulled a folded letter from inside her dress.

"My mommy told me... if anything happened to her... I had to give this to Grandpa."

Richard took the letter.

His hands trembled as he opened it.

The handwriting was Eleanor's.

Dad, if you're reading this, then they finally found me.
They told you I died because they needed my inheritance.
But I was alive. I was pregnant. And I ran because the person who wanted me dead was living inside our own house.

A terrified gasp spread across the ballroom.

Richard looked up slowly.

His eyes landed on Margaret.

For the first time that night, her perfect smile disappeared.

Then Lily whispered the sentence that shattered everything.

"Mommy said Grandma was the one who locked her in the fire."

And just as the room exploded in chaos...

Every screen in the ballroom suddenly turned black.

Then a video appeared.

May you like

Eleanor Hawthorne, alive but weak, stared into the camera and said:

"Dad... if this video is playing, it means my daughter made it to you. Now listen carefully... because the woman standing beside you is not my mother."
