Save the woman he loved, or hold onto the last shred of his freedom and his stolen legacy. David looked at Sarah, her breath hitching, her skin turning the color of ash.
“Sign it,” David whispered, a tear dropping onto Sarah’s cheek. He reached out, grabbed the gold-plated pen from Vance’s fingers, and slammed his signature onto the bottom line of the confession. “There! I signed it! Now call your damn chopper! Save her!”
Jonathan Vance calmly retrieved the document, checking the signature with a practiced eye. He slipped it back into his leather folder and stood up, dusting off his immaculate trouser knee.
“Marcus,” Vance said casually, turning his back on them.
“Sir?”
“Call the authorities. Tell them the fugitive David Mitchell has surrendered, and hand him over to the FBI agents waiting outside.”
David leaped up in blind fury, lunging at the billionaire. “You lied! You said you’d save her!”
Marcus intercepted him mid-air, slamming David face-first onto the sticky McDonald’s floor with brutal efficiency, slapping steel cuffs onto his wrists before he could draw another breath.

Vance didn't even look back. He adjusted his cuff links and walked toward the exit, speaking over his shoulder without a shred of remorse. “I said my chopper could save her. I never said I was going to pay for the fuel.”
As Vance pushed open the glass doors into the rainy New York afternoon, a strange sound echoed through the diner—not the wail of sirens, but a sharp, rhythmic clicking noise coming from Sarah’s pocket.
