CHAPTER 6 — The Woman Wearing My Face

"She looked exactly like me... except she had been raised by monsters."
The helicopter landed just after sunrise.
Not carrying police.
Not carrying journalists.
Carrying Isabelle.
She had requested the meeting herself.
Against every recommendation, Adrian agreed.
"I need answers."
"So do I."
She arrived wearing a black coat and white gloves.
Elegant.
Confident.
Terrifyingly calm.
When she stepped inside the library...
Everyone stopped breathing.
It was like looking into a mirror.
Same height.
Same eyes.
Same voice.
Only our expressions differed.
Mine carried questions.
Hers carried certainty.
She looked at me for a long moment.
Then smiled faintly.
"So..."
"You really exist."
I whispered,
"You're my sister."
She didn't answer.
Instead she looked toward Henri.
"You failed."
Henri lowered his head.
"I know."
She turned toward Adrian.
"And you."
"I expected more."
Adrian remained calm.
"You ordered the attack."
"I did."
"Why?"
Her answer shocked everyone.
"Because I believed you murdered Juliet."
The room froze.
"I spent twenty years being told Adrian Bellamy destroyed our family."
Henri slowly stood.
"No."
"We were all lied to."
For the first time...
Emotion cracked Isabelle's carefully controlled expression.
She reached into her handbag.
Every bodyguard raised their weapons.
She ignored them.
Instead she removed...
A faded photograph.
It showed two little girls laughing in a garden.
On the back...
Juliet's handwriting.
One day, my daughters will find each other. When they do... believe neither heroes nor villains until you discover who profits from your hatred.
Tears rolled silently down Isabelle's face.
"I've carried this picture my entire life."
"So have I," I whispered, showing the identical photograph hidden inside my wallet.
The sisters stared at each other.
Twenty-four years of lies collapsed in a single moment.
Just then...
A loud clap echoed from the doorway.
Everyone turned.
An elegant woman in her sixties stepped into the room, smiling slowly.
"Beautiful."
"Exactly as I planned."
Henri's face turned white.
"No..."
"It can't be."
The woman removed her sunglasses.
"My dear Henri..."
"You should have stayed dead."
Adrian's eyes narrowed.
"You."
The woman smiled.
"Juliet trusted me more than anyone."
"I was her closest friend."
She paused.
"And the one who betrayed her."
The room fell into stunned silence.
The greatest enemy had never been outside the family.
May you like
She had been sitting at Juliet's table all along.
