Chapter 17

Six months later, the Corso Restorante reopened under entirely new management.
The marble floors still glittered like a jewel box, and the crystal chandeliers still scattered light across white tablecloths where powerful men discussed the city's future. But the atmosphere had fundamentally shifted. Fear had been replaced by respect, and violence no longer lingered in the shadows like a loaded gun.
Naomi Rivers walked through the dining room in a sharp, elegant navy-blue designer dress, clipboard in hand as she reviewed the evening's reservation log. She wasn't carrying a heavy silver tray or hiding her exhaustion behind a desperate server's smile anymore. She was a partner, a stakeholder, and a woman who commanded the room with effortless grace.
Marco, still managing the floor, nodded respectfully as she passed. "Table seven is reserved for Mr. Santoro, Miss Rivers. Exactly at eight."
"Thank you, Marco," Naomi smiled.
She walked out through the private side entrance into the cool Manhattan evening air. Waiting at the curb was a sleek, black armored SUV. The back door swung open smoothly, and a massive brindle head popped out, letting out a happy, greeting whine.
Titan bounded out onto the pavement, his tail wagging furiously as he bumped his wet nose against Naomi’s knee.
"Easy, big guy," Naomi laughed, scratching him right behind the ears.
A pair of polished leather shoes stepped out of the vehicle after the dog. Belvin Santoro stood before her, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit with a dark crimson tie. He looked every bit the king of the city, but when his eyes locked onto Naomi, the cold, dangerous edge melted away into something deeply tender.
"You look stunning," Belvin said softly, offering her his arm.
"You clean up alright yourself, Santoro," Naomi teased, slipping her arm through his. "Where are we going?"
May you like
"Dinner," Belvin replied, opening the car door for her and Titan. "And then, a quiet evening where nobody throws a wine glass."
As the SUV pulled away from the curb and vanished into the glittering Manhattan traffic, Naomi leaned her head against Belvin’s shoulder, listening to the steady, reassuring beat of his heart. The ghosts of the past were finally laid to rest, and the world outside belonged to them.
