Chapter 10 - The Mastermind Revealed"You're... you're dead," Veronica whispered, her blood running cold as she recognized the face from the gallery portraits.

Elena Starks. Rory’s late wife.

The woman whose "accidental" car crash had supposedly torn the family apart two years ago.

Elena tilted her head, a low, mechanical laugh escaping her lips—the exact same sound that had played through the hidden speaker inside the twins' teddy bear every night at three o'clock.

"Death is such an ugly, permanent word, Veronica," Elena whispered, her voice smooth, hypnotic, and utterly devoid of human warmth. "In my line of work, we call it a tactical relocation."

From behind Veronica, the heavy library door clicked shut with a soft, final snap.

Footsteps approached from behind—heavy, powerful, deliberate footsteps. Veronica didn't need to turn around to know who was standing there.

Rory Starks stepped into the pale moonlight, his expression completely blank, his eyes dead and empty, holding a second matching teddy bear in his tattooed hands.

"You didn't really think Susan was smart enough to plan all of this by herself, did you, Veronica?" Rory said, his voice entirely devoid of the warmth he had shown just hours earlier.

Elena walked forward, stepping up beside Rory, her hand resting affectionately on his arm.

"The syndicate, the rivalries, the guards, the locked corridors... it was all just a magnificent stage play," Elena smiled, her fingers gently brushing the plush fur of the bear she carried. "And you, Veronica... you played your part so wonderfully. You exposed Susan, you eliminated Marcus, and you secured the house exactly the way we needed you to."

Veronica backed away slowly until her spine hit the corridor wall, her mind racing as every piece of the horrific puzzle finally snapped together into a terrifying reality.

"The twins..." Veronica breathed, horror gripping her chest. "They aren't having night terrors because of an enemy... they're screaming because they're part of the experiment."

Rory looked down at Veronica, his cold, ruthless eyes gleaming in the dark.

"They aren't just my daughters, Veronica," Rory said softly, as the grandfather clock downstairs began its slow, mechanical count of three. "They’re the final iteration. And tonight... training is officially over."
