Chapter 2 - The Man in 42BWhat I didn't know—what no one in economy class ever suspected—was who sat in seat 42B.

Julian Vance did not fly commercial. As the founder and chief executive officer of Vance Global Logistics—a multi-billion-dollar shipping and supply chain empire that controlled cargo ports across three continents—Julian's life was usually measured in private Gulfstream cabins, high-stakes boardrooms, and five-star penthouse suites.
So why was he crammed into a middle seat in economy on a red-eye from Los Angeles to Chicago?
Simple: corporate espionage prevention.
Earlier that evening, Julian’s security team intercepted a credible threat involving an attempted electronic tracking of his private aircraft. To throw off a corporate rival trying to sabotage an upcoming trillion-dollar merger, Julian made a spur-of-the-moment decision. He ditched his jet, put on a dark, unbranded baseball cap, slipped into a worn grey hoodie, and booked the last available commercial ticket under an alias.
Julian was used to being the center of attention, the man every investor wanted to impress, and the shark everyone feared. But for the past hour, sitting right next to him, had been a woman who had no idea who he was.
He had watched her.
Julian had watched every agonizing second of her struggle. He had seen the way the flight attendant patronized her. He had listened to the arrogant prick across the aisle insult her. And, most importantly, he had watched her hands—trembling, overworked, scarred by minor kitchen burns from her diner job—desperately trying to comfort a baby while fighting back tears she refused to let fall.
Julian had lived a cold, calculated life since taking over his father’s company at age twenty-four. Compassion was a liability in his world. Weakness was fatal.
Yet, as the exhausted young mother's head slumped against his shoulder, something inside his chest shifted with a sharp, unexpected jolt.
He didn't move away.
Instead, Julian slowly shifted his broad shoulder upward, adjusting his posture to give her head a more stable, comfortable resting place. He reached down, grabbed his own cashmere travel blanket from his lap, and gently draped it over her shivering shoulders, tucking it carefully around Sofi to protect the baby from the cabin's freezing air conditioning.
A flight attendant walking down the aisle paused, her eyes widening in absolute shock as she recognized the billionaire tech titan sitting incognito in coach—letting a exhausted stranger sleep on his arm.
Julian raised a single finger to his lips, fixing the attendant with a cold, piercing stare that made her freeze in her tracks.

Not a word, his eyes communicated instantly.
The flight attendant swallowed hard, nodded, and quickly walked away.
