Chapter 6 - THE UNHOLY ALLIANCE

Leo hit the dirty concrete floor of the basement hard, rolling to break his fall. Julian and Eleanor helped him up immediately.

"This way! The coal tunnel!" Eleanor led them through a rusted iron door hidden behind old wooden crates.

They scrambled through the narrow, dark passage, emerging three streets away inside the boiler room of an abandoned laundromat. They slipped out into the pouring rain, soaking wet, bruised, and exhausted, but still free.

Standing under the awning of a closed diner, Eleanor pulled her coat tight around herself. "We can't run forever. Arthur has eyes everywhere."

"We need help," Leo said, wiping muddy water from his eyes. "Someone powerful enough to stand up to Arthur Vance."

"There is no one," Eleanor said hopelessly. "Arthur sits at the top of the financial food chain."

"Not alone," Julian interjected suddenly, his eyes widening with realization. "What about Marcus Sterling?"

Eleanor frowned. "Dr. Sterling’s father? The head of the Sterling Syndicate?"

"Yes!" Julian said excitedly. "Dad is rushing the merger with the Sterling Syndicate because Vance Group is secretly hemorrhaging cash! I saw the internal balance sheets on the server last week. If Marcus Sterling finds out Arthur is committing massive fraud and lying about his sole heir status to unlock the family trust fund, the merger is dead. Marcus will ruin him!"

"Marcus Sterling is a ruthless serpent," Eleanor warned. "He doesn't care about justice, Julian. He only cares about money."

"Then we give him what he wants," Leo said grimly. "We give him Arthur's neck on a silver platter."

An hour later, using a payphone at a train station, Eleanor called Marcus Sterling’s private unlisted number. Marcus was Arthur's primary business rival and potential merger partner—a man who hated Arthur almost as much as he respected his ruthless wealth.

"Eleanor?" Marcus's voice came through the line, cold and calculating. "The news says you've been taken hostage by a street thug."

"It's a lie, Marcus," Eleanor said, her voice steady. "Arthur lied to you, and he lied to the world. I am standing with my twin sons."

A long silence hung on the line.

"Twins?" Marcus repeated slowly. "Arthur swore his second son died at birth. The merger agreement is built on the condition that Julian is the sole heir, making the inheritance consolidation seamless."

"Arthur forged the death certificate," Eleanor declared. "He abandoned my second boy to the streets to keep the entire fortune for himself. And he is faking the company's financial reports to trick you into the merger."

"Intriguing," Marcus murmured. "If this is true, Arthur has committed federal fraud, wire fraud, and kidnapping. His company stock would plunge to zero overnight."

"We have proof," Leo spoke into the receiver. "Or we can get it. But we need your protection and your resources to hit him where it hurts."

"Where do you want to meet?" Marcus asked.

"The Grand Gala tonight at the Plaza Hotel," Leo said, looking at Julian, who nodded in agreement. "Arthur is hosting the pre-merger celebration tonight at 8 PM. He thinks he’s won. He thinks we're trapped."

"A public execution of his reputation," Marcus chuckled darkly. "I love it. I will provide you with security and access passes. But if you fail to deliver the proof, Eleanor... I will hand all three of you back to Arthur myself."

"Deal," Eleanor said, slamming the phone back onto the receiver.

She turned to her two sons. One raised in ultimate luxury, the other raised in ultimate hardship. Yet, standing together in the dimly lit train station, they looked identical—not just in face, but in determination.

"Tonight," Eleanor said, her eyes flashing with lethal resolve, "we bring down the king."
