Chapter 4 - Breach and ClearThe sun was beginning to dip toward the horizon, casting long, bruised purple shadows across the pristine coastline.

Chief Miller led a tactical unit of twelve heavily armed officers up the winding, palm-lined stone driveway leading to the Vance Estate. The sprawling Mediterranean-style villa looked peaceful from the outside, its white stucco walls glowing warmly in the twilight. But to my trained eyes, the security flaws were glaring: redundant sensor grids, blind spots in the perimeter cameras, and reinforced steel shutters designed to convert a luxury home into a panic room within seconds.
"All teams, maintain radio silence until breach," Chief Miller whispered into his comms mic, holding up a clenched fist.
I checked my tactical loadout—though I was still wearing the emerald silk wrap over my dress, I had secured a standard-issue tactical sidearm and encrypted comm-link from the Chief's transport vehicle. My posture had shifted entirely; the socialite target was gone, replaced by the veteran operative who had spent years hunting down high-value targets in hostile territory.
"Mark, stay back with the perimeter detail," I instructed, glancing back at my husband.
"Not a chance," Mark said firmly, stepping up beside me with a heavy iron crowbar he had grabbed from a maintenance cart. "That's my family's name being dragged through the dirt by her criminal enterprise. I'm going with you."
I looked into his eyes and saw the same stubborn resolve that had made me fall in love with him years ago. I nodded once. "Stay on my six. If things go south, you drop flat."
Chief Miller raised his hand, signaling the countdown. Three. Two. One.
With a deafening boom, the reinforced oak front doors of the villa blew inward, shattered by a tactical breaching charge.
Smoke and dust billowed into the grand foyer.
"Police! Nobody move!" shouting officers poured into the mansion, their laser sights painting the walls in eerie red grids.
I stepped through the shattered threshold first, my eyes scanning the sweeping marble staircase, the priceless art hanging on the walls, and the high-end security consoles glowing ominously in the corner of the living room. Everything looked pristine, almost sterile—until my tactical instincts picked up a faint, rhythmic hum beneath our feet.

"Sub-level access," I muttered, kneeling down beside a decorative marble fountain in the center of the foyer.
I ran my fingers along the base of the stone structure, pressing a hidden seam disguised as grout. With a heavy, pneumatic hiss, a section of the marble floor slid backward, revealing a dark, steel-reinforced stairwell plunging deep into the earth beneath the villa.
