Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Titan

Nathan reacted on pure instinct.
As the first attacker swung the iron pipe toward his head, Nathan ducked, the metal whistling inches past his ear. He drove his shoulder into the man's chest, slamming him against the hood of the Maybach.
The second attacker stepped forward, pulling a heavy, black pistol from his pocket.
"Get down!" a voice screamed.
A pair of bright headlights blinded the garage. A car roared down the ramp, tires screeching against the concrete.
It was a beat-up blue sedan—Rebecca's car.
She didn't stop. She drove straight toward the second attacker, forcing him to dive out of the way to avoid being crushed. The sedan slammed into a concrete pillar with a deafening crunch of metal.
"Rebecca!" Nathan roared.
The first attacker, recovered from the blow, grabbed Nathan from behind, locking his arms. The second attacker scrambled to his feet, pointing the gun at Nathan’s chest.
"Do it!" Victoria screamed from the shadows. "Do it now!"
Bang!
A gunshot echoed through the cavernous garage.
But Nathan didn't fall.
The second attacker gasped, his gun slipping from his fingers as he collapsed to the floor. Standing at the top of the garage ramp, flanked by three armed police officers, was Marcus Vance. He held a service weapon, his face grim.
"Drop your weapons! Police!" the lead officer shouted.
The first attacker immediately let go of Nathan and threw his hands in the air.
Victoria turned to run, but two officers cut her off, forcing her to her knees and ratcheting handcuffs onto her wrists.
"Nathan!" Rebecca scrambled out of the passenger side of her wrecked sedan, her face bruised from the airbag deployment, but her eyes wild with panic. She ran to him, throwing her arms around his neck. "Are you okay? I saw the text on your iPad at the penthouse... it synced to Lily's tablet. I knew you were walking into a trap."
Nathan held her tight, his heart hammering against his ribs. "You drove your car into a gunman for me."
"I drove my car into a gunman for our daughter's father," she corrected, her voice shaking as she looked up at him.
Marcus walked down the ramp, lowering his weapon. "Sorry I was late, boss. I tracked your phone's GPS when I saw the login attempt on your private server from Victoria’s home IP address. I called the cops as soon as I realized what she was planning."
Nathan looked at Victoria, who was being dragged away, screaming curses at him. Then he looked at Marcus, and finally down at Rebecca.
"The merger is saved," Marcus said, trying to smile. "We have Victoria on camera. The board will rally behind you. The stock will recover by tomorrow afternoon."
But Nathan didn't look happy.
He looked at the wreckage of Rebecca’s car, then at the blood on his own hands.
"No," Nathan said quietly. "The merger is dead."
May you like
"What?" Marcus blinked. "Nathan, we won. You have control again."
"No, Marcus," Nathan said, wrapping his arm around Rebecca's waist, pulling her close. "I'm done letting control run my life. We're going home."
