Chapter 3 - THE MIDNIGHT ASSAULTGlass exploded inward, raining sparkling shards across the Persian rug.

"Get down!" Octavio roared, abandoning all composure as he shoved Clara behind his heavy mahogany desk.
Muzzle flashes illuminated the stormy night outside. Bullets tore through the bookshelves, sending leather-bound volumes and splinters flying into the air. Someone was trying to silence them—permanently.
Octavio didn't panic; he reacted with the cold, lethal efficiency of a man who had survived decades of cartel and corporate warfare. He slid open a hidden compartment beneath the desk, pulling out a heavy, matte-black Glock 19.
"Stay under the desk," Octavio ordered, checking the magazine with a practiced click. "If anyone other than me tells you to move, you bite their hand until they scream. Understand?"
Clara nodded frantically, clutching her knees to her chest.
Octavio kicked open a secret side door leading into the mansion's reinforced panic corridor. But as he stepped out to draw the fire away, a figure dropped silently from the ceiling rafters directly into the study.
It wasn't an external hitman.
The intruder wore the crisp, immaculate uniform of the estate's chief house manager: Ofelia.
In her hand, she held a silenced pistol, the barrel pointed straight at Octavio’s chest.
"Put it down, Octavio," Ofelia sneer-smiled, her face twisted into a mask of pure venom. "You built a fortress to keep the world out, but you were too blind to notice the poison living under your own roof."
Octavio’s face turned into a mask of stone. "Ofelia. Twenty years of loyalty... for what?"
"For everything you stole," Ofelia hissed, her finger tightening on the trigger. "You thought Renata died of complications during childbirth? You fool. She found out what you and your brother did to secure this empire. She tried to take Emiliano and run. So we gave her a 'routine' injection. And when the boy started crying and asking questions at age three, we made sure he would never tell anyone what he heard in the nursery."

Hidden beneath the desk, Clara gasped, covering her mouth with her hands.
Ofelia raised the gun higher, aiming squarely at Octavio's heart. "And now, cleanup time is overdue."
