Chapter 5 - THE EXTRACTION IN THE PANIC ROOMTen minutes later, the three of them were locked inside the steel-reinforced panic room beneath the study.

Octavio had traded his executive suit for a simple black t-shirt, his sleeves rolled up. Under the harsh, sterile white lights of the emergency medical station, he looked less like a feared crime lord and more like a desperate father facing his final trial.

Clara stood beside him, holding a tray of surgical instruments: micro-forceps, an otoscope with a high-definition fiber-optic camera, and sterile gauze.

"Hold his head steady, Clara," Octavio instructed, his hands trembling slightly as he picked up the otoscope. "Mili, look at me. Look at Dad. It’s going to pinch, buddy. I'm sorry."

The boy didn't flinch. He stared straight into his father’s eyes, nodding once.

Octavio inserted the slim lens into Emiliano’s right ear canal. On the high-definition monitor mounted on the wall, the interior of the ear lit up. Healthy pink tissue gave way to a horrific sight near the eardrum: a tiny, cylindrical capsule of dark, medical-grade polymer, wedged so deeply into the cartilage and scar tissue that it had fused with the nerve endings.

"It's a micro-listening and neural-jamming device," Clara whispered in horror, reading the faded serial numbers visible on the screen. "It wasn't just blocking his hearing... it was sending a constant, high-frequency white noise directly into his auditory nerve to keep him deaf. And... and recording everything said around him."

Octavio’s face turned an ashen, ghostly white. Veins throbbed violently at his temples.

"Ofelia... and my brother, Mateo," Octavio growled, a terrifying, guttural sound of pure wrath. "They didn't just want him deaf. They wanted a permanent spy in my house, listening to my every move, while making sure he could never tell me the truth."

"Can you get it out?" Clara asked anxiously.

"I have to," Octavio said, picking up the micro-forceps. "Even if I destroy the remaining nerve, this thing stays in, he dies of an infection within a month. Hold him."
