Chapter 5 - THE HOUSE OF SECRETSThe basement wasn't a wine cellar or a storage room. It was a custom-built, soundproofed bunker beneath the mansion.

Emergency backup lighting cast an eerie, sickly yellow glow across the concrete walls. In the corner, huddled against a damp pillar, sat Emily. Her designer blouse was torn, her lip was split and bleeding, and dark, ugly purple bruises wrapped around her throat like a tragic necklace. When she saw the silhouette standing at the top of the stairs, she flinched, shielding her face out of pure reflex.
"Emily," Richard choked out, his military stoicism fracturing entirely as he rushed down the stairs and dropped to his knees. "Sweetheart, I've got you. Look at me. I've got you."
Emily blinked through swollen eyes, her small hand trembling as it touched Richard's weather-beaten cheek. "Dad? You... you actually came?"
"I told you a long time ago, no distance is too far," Richard said, his voice thick with raw emotion as he gently swept her tangled hair away from her face. "Can you stand?"
She nodded weakly, leaning heavily against her father's chest. As Richard helped her up, his eyes swept across the rest of the basement. What he saw made his blood run completely cold.

Taped to the opposite concrete wall wasn't just old junk—it was a sprawling network of corkboards, photographs, financial logs, and legal documents. It wasn't Emily’s prison.
It was Ethan’s war room. And it documented crimes far darker than domestic abuse.
