Chapter 1 - THE CRACK IN THE GLASSThe phone screen glowed against the cold mahogany of Robert’s desk, the light casting harsh shadows across his sharp jawline. Victoria’s digital footprint was undeniable. The scandal that had ruined Laura’s reputation years ago hadn’t been Laura’s doing at all. It had been engineered by Victoria to bankrupt her former business partner—a quiet, brilliant accountant named Laura Monroe—and bury the evidence where no one would ever look.
And Robert, blinded by his own corporate paranoia and the intoxicating whisper of a woman he thought he knew, had just handed the executioner’s axe to the innocent.

Robert didn't answer. He stood up so fast his leather chair crashed backward against the glass wall.

He grabbed his car keys and his tailored jacket, ignoring the assistant shouting his name as he stormed toward the private elevator. The multi-billion-dollar empire he had spent fifteen years building suddenly felt like a cage made of expensive glass.
