Everything happened in seconds.
The disguised robber fired first.

Harold simply smiled.

Then he looked at Rex.
The aging German Shepherd quietly rested his head on Harold's lap.

Weeks later, the police department held a public ceremony.
Harold Bennett received the department's highest civilian honor for helping stop the robbery.
Rex was officially recognized for refusing an unlawful attack and trusting his instincts over appearances.
The chief addressed the crowd.
