CHAPTER 6 — THE CROWN OF SHADOWS

Prince Adrian drew his sword as he and Elara entered the hidden passage.

The ancient tunnel stretched deep beneath the palace, its stone walls covered with faded murals.

The old gardener followed behind them carrying the lantern.

"The kings built these tunnels centuries ago," he explained.

"They were meant as an escape route."

"But over time... people forgot they existed."

After several minutes, the passage opened into a vast underground chamber.

In the center stood a stone pedestal.

Upon it rested an iron chest covered with dust.

Across its lid was engraved a single warning:

Only the rightful bloodline may open this chest.

Elara stepped forward.

The moment her hand touched the lock, it clicked open by itself.

Inside were three objects.

A golden crown unlike any worn by the current king.

An ancient diary wrapped in silk.

And a sealed letter bearing Queen Helena's personal seal.

The king and queen were summoned immediately.

With trembling hands, Queen Helena opened the letter.

As she read, tears streamed down her face.

"It was written by my mother."

She handed the letter to the king.

It revealed a secret hidden for generations.

Long ago, the royal family had divided its authority between two sacred symbols.

The throne.

And the Crown of Dawn.

No ruler could truly unite the kingdom without possessing both.

The Crown of Dawn had been hidden after a civil war, known only to the direct royal bloodline.

Whoever controlled it would have the strongest claim to the throne.

Prince Adrian looked at Elara.

"So that's why they kidnapped you."

The queen nodded.

"The Order didn't want to kill her..."

"They wanted the child who could reveal the crown's location."

Before anyone could speak again, a deafening explosion shook the chamber.

Dust rained from the ceiling.

The hidden entrance collapsed behind them.

Soldiers' voices echoed from the darkness.

"They're inside!"

"Protect the crown!"

Masked figures poured into the chamber carrying black banners marked with the burning crown symbol.

At their head stood Chancellor Edmund.

He slowly applauded.

"Excellent."

"You've saved me years of searching."

His cold eyes settled on Elara.

"I knew one day you would lead me to it."

He raised his sword.

"Now hand me the Crown of Dawn... or everyone in this room dies."

The royal family formed a circle around Elara as the masked warriors advanced.

Then, from the rear of the chamber, another voice echoed through the darkness.

"You're too late, Edmund."

Everyone turned.

A tall armored stranger stepped into the light, his face hidden beneath a silver helmet.

Across his chest gleamed the forgotten emblem of the ancient Royal Guard.

Even King Aldric looked stunned.

"That crest..."

"It was abolished twenty-one years ago."

The stranger slowly removed his helmet.

The queen gasped.

"No..."

"It can't be..."

The man bowed respectfully.

"I made a promise to protect the royal children."

"And I have finally come home."
