CHAPTER 8 — The Billionaire Behind the Prison

Brutus gently set the frightened boy beside Ethan.
"I never wanted to hurt him."
Ethan kept one arm around his son but never lowered his guard.
"Then why take him?"
Brutus swallowed hard.
"Because if I didn't..."
"...they would've killed him."
Before anyone could speak again, every television screen inside Blackridge Prison suddenly switched on.
A familiar face appeared.
An elegant elderly billionaire wearing a perfectly tailored suit.
His calm smile was more frightening than any weapon.
"My name is Adrian Ashcroft."
"For twenty-five years, governments believed I was a philanthropist."
He chuckled softly.
"They were wrong."
The screens shifted to secret footage.
Politicians accepting bribes.
Judges changing verdicts.
Executives signing illegal contracts.
Prisons trafficking innocent people.
Everything was connected.
Blackridge wasn't just a prison.
It was the headquarters of an empire built on stolen identities, fake deaths, and human lives sold for profit.
Adrian continued,
"Ethan Cole..."
"You've spent eight years searching for the wrong enemy."
"Warden Hale works for me."
"The judges work for me."
"The senators work for me."
"Even the agency that trained you..."
"...works for me."
Sophia's face turned pale.
"No..."
Marcus slowly nodded.
"I warned them years ago."
"No one listened."
Adrian smiled again.
"But today isn't about revenge."
"It's about inheritance."
He snapped his fingers.
The cameras focused on Ethan's son.
"The boy carries the only genetic key capable of opening the Ashcroft Legacy Vault."
"A vault containing more than twenty billion dollars in assets, classified documents, and the names of every powerful person who helped build my empire."
Ethan frowned.
"Why my son?"
Adrian's smile finally faded.
"Because..."
"...he isn't just your son."
Silence consumed the room.
The old billionaire leaned closer to the camera.
"Twenty-seven years ago..."
"...I am the man who gave you your real name."
Ethan's heart stopped.
"No..."
Adrian's final words echoed through the prison like thunder.
"You've been hunting a criminal your entire life..."
"...without realizing you are my biological son."
May you like
The screen went black.
At that exact moment, the massive vault doors beneath Blackridge Prison began to unlock on their own.
