CHAPTER 6 "A Little Boy Walked Up to Daniel and Asked One Question… The Answer Left Everyone Crying 😭❤️"

As the crowd slowly left the courthouse, reporters rushed toward Daniel.

Microphones surrounded him.

"Carter!"

"Do you forgive Victor?"

"What will you do now?"

Daniel smiled gently.

"I'm going home."

"That's all I've wanted for three years."

Just then, someone tugged lightly on his sleeve.

Daniel looked down.

It was Ethan.

Victor's son.

The teenager's eyes were swollen from crying.

"I know you probably hate my family."

Daniel shook his head.

"I don't."

Ethan reached into his backpack and pulled out a small cardboard box.

"My dad wanted to burn these."

"But I couldn't."

Inside were dozens of photographs.

Daniel slowly picked up the first one.

It showed the tiny construction company he and Victor had started together years ago.

There they were—covered in dust, laughing while building their very first house.

Another photo showed Daniel painting walls while Victor grilled burgers for the workers.

Another captured the day they signed their first contract.

Daniel smiled sadly.

"We were brothers."

Ethan nodded.

"He always talked about you."

Daniel looked surprised.

"He did?"

"When he wasn't angry..."

"...he said you were the best friend he ever had."

Daniel closed his eyes.

"So what happened?"

Ethan's voice trembled.

"My mom got sick."

"We lost everything paying hospital bills."

"My dad became obsessed with money."

"He kept saying one big deal would save us."

"But after Mom died..."

"...he became someone I didn't recognize."

Daniel stood silently for several seconds.

The anger he had carried for years slowly disappeared.

Not because Victor deserved forgiveness.

But because hatred would never return the years he had lost.

Daniel walked over to Ethan.

Without saying a word...

He hugged him.

The teenager immediately burst into tears.

"I'm sorry..."

he repeated over and over.

Daniel gently placed a hand on his shoulder.

"None of this was your fault."

Anastasia stepped forward holding one of the twins.

The baby smiled at Ethan.

Tiny fingers reached toward him.

Ethan hesitated.

"I've never held a baby before."

Daniel laughed softly.

"I hadn't either."

He carefully placed his son into Ethan's arms.

The little boy giggled.

For the first time since his mother's death...

Ethan smiled.

Nearby, the prison guard who had once broken the rules watched quietly from a distance.

The warden walked over beside him.

"You know..."

the warden said.

"You really did change a family's future."

The guard shook his head.

"No."

He smiled as Daniel walked away carrying one twin while Anastasia carried the other.

"I only opened a door."

"They were the ones who walked through it."

As the family disappeared into the sunset, Daniel looked down at his children sleeping peacefully in his arms.

Three years earlier...

A sheet of prison glass had kept him from touching them.

Now...

Nothing in the world ever would again.

And in that quiet moment, Daniel finally realized something extraordinary.

May you like

Justice had given him his freedom.

But love had saved his life.
