Chapter 10 - A New EmpireSix months later, the Chicago skyline glittered under a brilliant summer sunset.

The front kitchen doors of Solace swung open smoothly as the evening dinner rush began. The pianist at the corner was playing a soft, smooth jazz melody, and the restaurant was filled with the warm murmur of satisfied patrons.
At the corner table—Alio Valente’s usual spot—sat the man himself. But tonight, he wasn't eating alone.
Lying comfortably across the white marble floor beside his chair was a massive, 180-pound Neapolitan mastiff, its gray coat sleek and shining under the warm restaurant lights. Its dark eyes scanned the room with calm, protective vigilance, though its tail gave a slow, contented thump against the floor whenever Alio reached down to rest a hand on its head.
The federal syndicates had crumbled after the evidence recovered from the micro-SD card led to sweeping indictments across the city. Vincent Rossi and his conspirators were currently spending the rest of their natural lives in a maximum-security federal penitentiary, miles away from the streets they once terrorized.
The door of the restaurant opened, and Tommy Keen walked in, sliding an envelope across the table toward Alio.
"Everything’s locked down, boss. The port authorities signed off on the new shipping routes this afternoon. Chicago is ours, top to bottom."
Alio didn't open the envelope. He looked down at the mastiff, which looked back up at him with absolute, unwavering loyalty.

"Good," Alio said softly, a faint, genuine smile touching his lips for the first time in six years. "Let's keep it that way."
He picked up his wine glass, raised it slightly toward the quiet hum of the city outside, and finally—truly—came home.
