Chapter 8 - A NEW DAWNThree months later.

The autumn leaves had turned brilliant shades of gold and amber, blanketing the manicured lawns of the Kincaid family estate outside the city. The dark, oppressive shadow that had hung over the mansion for two years had been thoroughly exorcised. Daria and Marcus were currently awaiting trial behind federal bars, facing multiple life sentences with no possibility of parole. Kincaid Enterprises was now under new leadership—mine. And we had restructured the entire board to ensure transparency, ethics, and family protection above all else.

I stood on the wide veranda overlooking the sprawling private gardens, holding a cup of hot black coffee in one hand.

Soft footsteps approached from behind, followed by the familiar, comforting scent of lavender and vanilla. Strong, warm arms wrapped gently around my waist, and a soft cheek pressed against my back.

“Penny just fell asleep for her morning nap,” Catherine whispered happily, her voice light and melodic, completely free of the ghosts that used to haunt her.

I turned around in her embrace, setting my coffee cup down on the stone railing, and pulled her tightly against my chest, burying my face in her soft, dark hair—no longer roughly cut, but grown back to its natural, beautiful length.

“Are you warm enough?” I asked, gently pulling her woolen cardigan closer around her shoulders.

“I’m warmer than I’ve ever been,” she smiled, looking up into my eyes with a radiant peace that made my heart ache with gratitude. “Samuel... do you ever look back and wonder how we survived all of that?”

I smiled, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead, and then looked down toward the garden where a gentle breeze rustled through the golden trees.

“I don’t look back, Catherine,” I said softly, holding our family close. “Because everything we ever fought for is right here in my arms.”

The past was buried. The future was ours. And our family would never be broken again.
