Chapter 5 - The Heir to the EmpireThree weeks later, the rain had given way to the crisp, golden sunlight of an early November afternoon.

The sprawling Moretti estate in Westchester County—usually a bastion of cold stone, iron gates, and whispered conspiracies—looked remarkably different. Through the towering double oak doors of the grand foyer, the sound of soft, childish laughter echoed off the marble floors for the first time in thirty years.

Sophia Delgado stood in the center of the grand parlor, wearing a brand-new, charcoal-gray uniform that fit her properly, her health fully restored. She wasn't just cleaning anymore; she had been promoted to Head of Household Logistics, overseeing the entire domestic staff with a salary that tripled her previous earnings and guaranteed a college fund for her daughter.

Upstairs, in the private family wing, Alessandro Moretti sat behind his massive walnut desk—not reviewing shipping manifests or arms shipments, but holding a stack of pink construction paper and a box of Crayola crayons.

Knock, knock.

“Come in,” Alessandro said without looking up.

The door creaked open, and a small head with neatly braided hair peeked into the room. Emma wore a tiny plaid dress with white lace socks, looking every bit like a normal six-year-old child instead of an exhausted worker running from a nightmare.

“Mr. Moretti?” Emma asked shyly, clutching a fresh drawing to her chest.

Alessandro set down his pen, leaning back in his leather chair. A rare, genuine smile touched the corners of his lips. “Come on in, Emma. I told you, when we’re in this room, you can call me Alessandro.”

Emma padded across the thick Persian rug, stopping right beside his desk. She held out the paper. It showed a large, lopsided castle with a bright sun, a black sedan, and two stick figures standing side by side—one tall and wearing a charcoal suit, one very small holding a plastic spray bottle.

“I finished the windows in the west wing,” Emma announced proudly. “And I didn't leave a single streak. Mom checked.”

“I have no doubt,” Alessandro said, taking the drawing and examining it with the same solemn care he usually reserved for multi-million-dollar contracts. He opened the top drawer of his desk, pulled out a heavy silver frame, and carefully slipped her drawing inside, right in front of the deed to the estate.

“Is that staying there forever?” Emma asked, her eyes wide.

“Forever,” Alessandro replied. “Every empire needs a foundation, Emma. And yours is right here.”

Downstairs, Marco walked past the open parlor doors, holding an encrypted tablet. He paused for a second, watching the feared mafia boss listening intently as a six-year-old explained how she planned to clean every window in Manhattan.

For the first time in his life, Marco smiled. The Moretti dynasty wasn't just surviving anymore. It was finally learning how to live.
