Chapter 7 - The Confrontation in the Server Room"Hurry, Marcus!" I hissed under my breath, watching the progress bar crawl toward completion.

88%... 94%...
The heavy steel door swung open, revealing a hulking guard with a scar running across his left cheek and a drawn submachine gun in his hands. He took one look at us, his eyes widening in fury, and barked a command in Russian, raising his weapon.
Marcus didn't hesitate. He lunged forward, executing a swift, textbook disarm, driving his palm upward into the guard's chin and sending the man crashing backward into a rack of cooling fans.
100% COMPLETED.
I yanked the sniffer device out of the port just as the guard scrambled back to his feet, lunging for Marcus's throat. I grabbed a heavy fire extinguisher from the wall bracket, swung it with both hands, and brought it down hard across the back of the guard's shoulders. He groaned and collapsed onto the linoleum floor, unconscious.
"Nice swing," Marcus panted, grabbing the device from my hand and slipping it into his tactical pouch. "Now let's get out of here before the rest of the battalion wakes up."
We sprinted out the back fire exit, vaulting over a chain-link fence just as the alarms inside Warehouse 14 began to blare a deafening, red-flashing wail across the Brooklyn docks.
We tumbled back into the van, and Marcus slammed his foot on the gas, tearing out of the industrial park into the safety of the BQE traffic.
"Did we get it?" I asked, catching my breath, my chest heaving.
Marcus pulled the small device out, plugged it into his dashboard laptop, and watched the screen cascade with lines of decryption keys and offshore financial records.
"We didn't just get it, Marissa," Marcus grinned darkly, tapping a specific folder on the screen. "We got Rostov’s entire ledger of political bribes, tax evasion schemes, and—best of all—the original, unrecorded trust agreement where Anthony voluntarily signed away your penthouse and committed wire fraud under duress."

"Can we use this to get the deed back?"
"We can use this to put Rostov away for the next thirty years," Marcus said. "And as for your ex-husband... Anthony is about to find out what happens when you double-cross the wrong people twice in one week."
