Chapter 5 - The ConfessionCamille gasped, clapping her hands over her mouth as the brutal, unedited audio recording of her father threatening murder echoed off the marble walls of the courtyard.

“No... no, that’s fake! That’s an AI deepfake!” Camille shrieked, grabbing her father’s arm. “Dad, tell them it’s fake!”

Victor looked up at the screen, his shoulders slumping as all the fight drained out of him. He looked like an old, broken man stripped of his crown, his wealth, and his legacy.

He slowly lowered his head, letting out a long, shuddering breath.

“It’s not fake, Camille,” Victor whispered, his voice hollow and defeated. “It’s real. Every single word of it.”

Camille stumbled backward, staring at her father as if he were a stranger. “You... you murdered a man? You framed him for stealing your car and left his family to starve?”

“I didn't mean for him to die,” Victor muttered defensively, his voice trembling. “He wouldn't cooperate! He was going to ruin everything I spent thirty years building!”

“He was an honest man trying to protect his family,” I said, stepping right up to Victor, my voice burning with righteous fury. “And you destroyed ours for greed.”

Before Victor could speak another word, the heavy iron gates of Blackwood Manor swung open.

Three marked police cruisers and an unmarked federal transport vehicle drove rapidly up the gravel driveway, their blue and red emergency lights flashing silently against the grand stone pillars of the mansion.
