Chapter 6 - Confrontation at Pier 4The night was drenched in torrential rain. Fog rolled over the abandoned docks of the industrial district.

Ashley stood inside the dimly lit, cavernous warehouse, clutching a heavy leather bag to her chest. She checked her watch nervously. It was 11:58 PM.
Suddenly, the heavy metal door clicked open.
Footsteps echoed against the concrete floor. But it wasn’t a federal agent or an anonymous informant who stepped out of the shadows.
It was Michael.
His coat was soaked, his eyes wild and bloodshot, holding a silenced pistol in his right hand.
“Michael?!” Ashley shrieked, backing away. “How did you find me?!”
“I put a GPS tracker on your car days ago, Ashley,” Michael sneered, his voice dripping with venom. “I knew you were hiding something. You were going to betray me, weren’t you? You were going to hand over my private ledgers!”
“You were setting me up!” Ashley screamed, backing into a row of shipping crates. “I heard the recording! You were going to blame Emma’s death on me!”
“Because you’re stupid!” Michael roared, leveling the gun at her chest. “You were always just a tool! A pretty face to keep me entertained until I got the fifty million! But now you’re a liability.”
“Put the gun down, Michael.”
A cold, crisp voice echoed from the elevated catwalk above them.
Michael and Ashley both froze.
The industrial floodlights above snapped on with a blinding flash, illuminating the entire warehouse. High up on the metal walkway, wearing a black trench coat, stood a figure against the glaring light.
Michael squinted, shaking his head frantically. “No… no, no! You’re dead! I watched you freeze! I watched you fall!”
I slowly walked down the metal staircase, the sound of my heels clicking rhythmically against the steel—a slow countdown to his doom.

I stopped ten feet away from him, pulling down the collar of my coat to reveal my face.
“You should have checked my pulse, Michael,” I said quietly, my voice echoing in the vast space. “Because the mother you tried to murder… just came back from the grave.”
