Chapter 3 - The Trap ClosesThe silence in the judge's private study was absolute, thick enough to cut with a knife.

Judge Marcus Davis stared at the papers in Sarah’s hand, the color instantly draining from his face until he looked like a corpse. Across the table, Chief Prosecutor Marcus Vance slowly dropped his poker chips, his eyes darting frantically toward the door before fixing on Clara with a look of pure, unadulterated venom.

"You..." Vance hissed, standing up so fast his chair crashed backward onto the Persian rug. "You insane bitch. How did you get those?"

"From my son," Clara stepped forward, her voice ringing out with a cold, terrifying clarity that made even the seasoned corrupt judge step back. She pointed a steady finger directly at Davis's chest. "My eight-year-old boy was smart enough to pull these right out of your corporate puppet's coat pocket before you exiled him. You thought you could buy the courts, bribe the police, and steal my child? You forgot one simple rule of law, Marcus: Greed always leaves a paper trail."

Davis swallowed hard, his hands trembling as he tried to regain his composure. He forced a sickly, fake smile, attempting to mask his panic behind judicial authority.

"Clara, let's... let's not do anything rash," Davis said smoothly, raising his hands in a placating gesture. "This is clearly a misunderstanding. These documents... they look forged. Unauthorized extraction of private records. If you hand them over right now, I can personally ensure that your custody case is reopened... maybe even grant you joint custody."

"Joint custody?" Clara let out a sharp, bitter laugh that echoed off the mahogany walls. "You think I want joint custody of a broken system? I want my son back, and I want every single one of you rotting behind federal bars."

Sarah didn't waste another second. She pulled out her encrypted burner phone, tapped the screen, and placed it right in the center of the poker table.

"Look at the screen, gentlemen," Sarah commanded.

A live progress bar appeared on the phone display, ticking upward rapidly: [UPLOADING ENCRYPTED DATA PACKET TO FBI FIELD OFFICE & ASSOCIATED PRESS... 84%... 91%... 98%...]

"No! Stop that upload!" Vance lunged forward across the table like a wild animal, aiming straight for the phone.

Before he could reach it, Sarah drew a heavy, legal-grade brass paperweight from the desk and slammed it down inches from his outstretched fingers. "Touch that phone and I’ll break every bone in your hand, Marcus."

"Too late," Sarah smiled coldly as the progress bar flashed green. [UPLOAD COMPLETE. SECURE HASH VERIFIED.]

Right at that exact second, the heavy bass of thumping sirens began to echo from outside the gates of the estate. Not local police sirens—federal convoy sirens, deep, heavy, and unmistakable. Red and blue strobe lights began flashing through the floor-to-ceiling windows, painting the luxurious study in an ominous, flashing war zone glow.

"FBI! Federal Bureau of Investigation! Drop your weapons and step away from the table!" a booming voice echoed through the house via a megaphone from the front lawn.

Judge Davis collapsed back into his leather armchair, defeated, his head falling into his hands. His career, his wealth, and his corrupt empire had evaporated in less than three minutes.

Vance glared at Clara with sheer hatred, his teeth clenched. "You think Richard is going down alone? Think again, Clara. That private jet didn't land in Europe. Richard knew there was a risk. He took your boy to a private island fifty miles off the coast—an island with no extradition treaty, no federal jurisdiction, and zero rescue signals."

Clara’s heart stopped dead in her chest. All the triumph of the moment vanished, replaced by a cold wave of absolute terror.

"What... what did you say?" Clara whispered, grabbing Vance by the lapels of his expensive tuxedo. "Where is my son?!"

Before Vance could answer, the study doors were kicked wide open, and three heavily armed FBI agents rushed into the room, their assault rifles raised.

"Federal agents! Nobody move!"

An older, sharp-eyed man in a dark trench coat stepped to the front of the unit—Special Agent Reynolds. He looked around the room, taking in the corrupt officials, the poker table, and finally, Clara holding Vance by the collar.

"Clara Vanguard?" Agent Reynolds asked, flashing his badge.

"Yes! That's me!" Clara cried, turning toward him with tears streaming down her face. "You have to help me. Richard Vanguard just took my son, Leo, out of the country to an unregistered private island. We need to intercept that jet right now before it's too late!"

Agent Reynolds looked down at the Manila envelope in Clara’s hand, then gave a grim, resolute nod.

"We know, Mrs. Vanguard," Reynolds said quietly. "And we are already tracking the flight path. But you need to know something else. That island isn't just a vacation home. It's a fortified compound. And Richard is waiting for you."
