CHAPTER 3 — The Greatest Lesson Money Could Never Buy
Richard immediately rushed forward.
"Please..."
"I'll personally prepare everything."
"We'll give you the biggest discount we've ever offered."
Another manager offered free maintenance.
Someone else suggested lifetime service.
Everyone suddenly wanted to help.
Eleanor smiled gently.
"For thirty minutes..."
"I wasn't wealthy."
"I was simply an old woman."
She looked around the showroom.
"Interesting how quickly kindness appears once people discover money."
Nobody could meet her eyes.
Then Eleanor surprised everyone again.
"I'll pay full price."
Richard looked relieved.
Until she continued.
"But not from this dealership."
Confused silence spread across the room.
Daniel handed another document to the regional director who had just arrived.
"The Ashford Foundation has finalized the purchase..."
"...from your competitor across town."
The rival dealership had welcomed Eleanor with respect, offered her coffee, listened patiently, and never once judged her appearance.
